The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) released initial results from the 2011 Oregon Health Insurance Survey (OHIS), estimating that 14.6% (560,000) of all Oregonians lack health insurance coverage.

The first in a series of new reports out of Oregon shows Medicaid coverage increases utilization, decreases out of pocket costs, and leads to better self-reported health status when compared to the uninsured.

On May 26, 2011 Governor Bev Perdue signed into law H.B. 578, which amended previously enacted S.B. 323, measures that will transfer oversight of the state health plan from the Legislature to the state Treasurer's Office, and implement a number of other changes aimed at cost savings.
