OR-First Loan Forgiveness Program for Primary Care Workforce
House Bill 2397, creates the Primary Health Care Loan Forgiveness Program Fund. The bill allocates $525,000 general fund dollars to the Department of Administrative Services, which in turn will allocate that revenue to the Office of Rural Health at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). Oregon state officials see the bill as a good long-term strategy to convince students to practice in rural areas who intend to become physicians, nurse practitioners or physician assistants. The bill has passed the House.
