The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s State Health Reform Assistance Network recently released a brief to identify key milestones that will help states as they plan for and implement the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA).
This brief identifies critical ACA implementation milestones for states to achieve by the end of 2012. The document is organized under the major areas of health insurance exchanges, private insurance market reforms, and the Medicaid expansion. These are important milestones to assess in meeting 2014 implementation deadlines, impacting policy development, business operations, and IT system architecture. At the same time, for states relying on the federally facilitated exchange, the milestones highlight core exchange functions, over which some states may want to ensure they can maintain more local control.
