UI-Consider Savings as Well as Costs
This Urban Institute report finds two key points:
- State governments will collectively save between $92 and $129 billion from 2014 to 2019 because of provisions in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that are designed to reduce the uninsured population and provide federal funding for functions that, in the past, have been financed by states and localities.
- Spending effects will not be uniform among states. Each state’s costs and savings will depend upon its Medicaid eligibility rules, characteristics of its uninsured population, and other factors.
