National Institute for Health Care Management Foundation Data Brief on U.S. health care found that between 2005 and 2009, total national health spending rose 23 percent from $2.021 trillion to $2.486 trillion. Over the same time period, national spending on premiums for private health insurance rose nearly 15 percent.
