AAMC-Results of the 2010 Medical School Enrollment Survey
According to the Association of American Medical colleges, there will be approximately 28 percent more first-year med students in 2015 than in 2002. In preparation for the Medicaid expansion called for in the health care law, teaching hospitals had projected that a 30 percent increase in students would be necessary to cope with the 32 million new patients covered under the health reform law. But not enough of these students are becoming primary care physicians, the survey found.
