TX-Legislature Passed Budget Bill
On May 28, 2011, the Texas state legislature passed a budget bill that would cut billions of dollars for public programs. The legislation creates a $172 billion budget using defferals and cuts rather than raising taxes or using that state's reserve fund. The 2012-2013 plan is $15 billion less than the current budget. Funding for nursing homes would be cut 37 percent compared to 2010-2011 levels and Medicaid reimbursements would be underfunded by $4.8 billion. The bill awaits Governor Rick Perry's final considerations.
